Mortal
Ambivalence

This painting is about mortality, the paths we travel through in life, and the decisions that shape our future. We are surrounded by fresh water on all sides - it’s the life force that defines the shape of the city of Detroit. This place is a literal safe haven, with access to some of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world, and it connects us in a big way to life in an unknown future.

How Do You Flash Your Lights?

I flash my lights by making paintings, hoping they can tell a thousand stories.  I came to Detroit to build a life and ultimately shed the nihilism of youth – now that the dust has settled and the noise has stopped, I can finally reflect on my place here. My sound of safety is quiet – the stillness in the water is my own version of “best life ever.”
